About

Understanding, Adapting, Coping and Thriving.

Whatever challenges or life experiences bring you to this page, you’re probably searching for some relief, a solution, or measure of understanding. I applaud the courage and effort you've demonstrated so far; now let's make what you're seeking a reality! In my past role as a Training Director, I spent many years teaching and supervising future therapists, so I feel quite comfortable and competent with a wide range of perspectives, situations, and issues that often occur in therapy. If this is your first experience with therapy, I’ll demystify the process from the outset, and whether this is new or you are yourself a seasoned clinician, our shared environment will be one of respect, collaboration, warmth, and when appropriate, spiced with a bit of humor as well. Therapy should not be a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all endeavor, and together we will create a plan that incorporates your unique style, goals, and resources. People sometimes benefit from a more extended approach that helps them fully explore, examine, and resolve long-held concerns, which is certainly a rich and rewarding process often associated with “traditional” therapy. Near the opposite end of the therapy spectrum, other people benefit from a tightly focused approach that allows them to achieve what they wish in only a few meetings, and I feel as comfortable and competent with this very brief therapy style as with the more rigorous, “traditional” approach. During our first meeting we will discuss what you prefer and why and which approach may best suit your situation. I sincerely want the healing to begin as soon as possible, and will prioritize working both effectively and efficiently so that even from our very first meeting you experience a renewed sense of hope and feel reassured by new insights and strategies you can use that day. You’ve already taken the first step towards change with beginning to research potential therapists. When you feel ready for the next step of coping with current challenges and enjoying a fuller, more satisfied life, contact me at your convenience and we’ll explore how my style and approach may match your own style and goals for therapy. If these seem to harmonize, then we’ll begin contouring a course of action that is clear and concise so that you can readily chart your own progress. Therapy should not be a mystery, and I want both of us to know where you’re going, how you’re getting there, and how you measure success. This last is very important because while I wish to be of service, I also want to know when (and why) that service may no longer seem quite as necessary in the future. That time will mark a wonderful revelation for us since it suggests you’re achieving what you seek, and what a moment for celebration that will be! A final thought. One of the most important factors impacting whether therapy truly succeeds is the “fit” between the person and their therapist (which includes style, personality, approach, logistics, and a number of other elements). Before you decide to begin working with me (or anyone else), I strongly encourage you to talk with several therapists first and “interview” them to determine who might be the best “fit” for you. Even if it is not me, I will appreciate knowing you’re finding the best therapist for YOU! My priority will always be your mental health and well-being rather than your money. Not sure how to “interview” a therapist? Just give me a call (even if you’re not at all considering me as your therapist) and I’ll be glad to speak with you for a few minutes to share some ideas about what to ask and what to notice in your conversation with them. Whatever the reason you’re reaching out, I’m looking forward to hearing about your journey soon!
